Skyline Family,

Although several Skyline teams had a bye this week, the few that played represented once again. The Flag Blue and JM were victorious, and the JPW played hard in a tough loss at Skyline Park and Recreation. In total, Skyline Park and Recreation hosted five games with only two involving Skyline. What’s the significance, the teams that visited our field were from the communities of Del Mar, Santee, and Rancho San Diego. Not that this means anything special, it was interesting that soooo many of their fans shared how they were blown away by their experience. Through honest conversation shared with me and others, they found the negative comments and image about our community to be untrue and their experience to be pleasant. They shared that they had a great time dancing and listening to the music, enjoyed our snack bar, and observed with amazement the spirit of SKYLINE!!!! As if I give a care about how they were going to feel, I must tell you the many positive comments shared did add a little “pep to my step.” As demonstrated by the many families spread throughout the park cheering on the players, and dancing and chanting with our cheerleaders, the richness of our culture and the lively Skyline Tiger spirit was clearly evident. Unfortunately, we as a community will sometimes take this feeling for granted. Most importantly, this is something that money can’t buy and others wish they had. Much like you, I know our community is “the Bomb” regardless of what the media and haters say – I am proud to share I am a “SKYLINE TIGER 4 Life”. Therefore, I want to personally thank each every one of you for your leadership, support, and commitment to our children and community.

Just in case you did not hear the results of the games this Saturday, listed as follows are the Skyline scores for week 3:

Skyline Flag Blue 18 Eastlake Blue 13

Skyline JM 47 Carmel Valley 0

Skyline JPW 6 Carmel Valley 12

As we prepare for a busy weekend that will include the Skyline Football and Spirit 50th Anniversary Dance, team pictures, and Skyline Day at Shakey’s Pizza in Grossmont Center, our student/athletes will need your support as they cheer and play football this weekend. The schedule for this Saturday September 24, 2011(week 4) is as follows:

9:30 Flag (Gold) vs. Otay Ranch (Blue) @ Madison HS

2:00 Flag (Blue) vs. Mira Mesa @ Mira Mesa HS

11:00 MM vs. Carmel Valley @ Cathedral HS

11:00 JPW vs. Balboa @ San Diego HS

3:00 PW vs. Eastlake (Black) @ El Toyon Park

3:00 JM vs. Balboa @ San Diego HS

5:00 M vs. Eastlake (Black) @ El Toyon Park

As a reminder, we are approaching the middle of the regular season and fanwear is selling fast. Make sure you stop by the snack bar and pick up some fresh gear and/or get details for upcoming events. Also, if you have not heard, there is a Skyline Walking Club for parents and friends. The club meets at Skyline Park every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday @ 5:00pm. This is a great way to tighten up some things in preparation for the little outfit you are planning to wear to our dance this Saturday (smile).

On a more serious note, please let your child know that I am proud of them and to keep working hard. Please let them know that we need them to be champions in the classroom, at home, in the community, as well as, on the field.

Thanks again!

Skyline Family,

First and foremost, I hope you and your family are safe and sound after a night without power. Secondly, this is a great opportunity to debrief with your child(dren) what happened, what worked well, what did not work as well, what needs to be done differently, and close by giving them a hug. I mentioned a hug for a few reasons, your child or even you may of had a horrific reaction much like my children. My children thought the world was coming to an end with statements such as: What are we going to do without television? My cell phone is dead! I can’t get on my Playstation III, Ninetendo, or Wii! I don’t know what to eat, the microwave is not working? I simply responded by saying ” this a great time to bond.” My son replied by saying “why.” And then he told me that “the Barrell” Taco Shop was open.

Anyhow, please make sure your football players and cheerleaders are prepared for their games this Saturday. Although there is no school, I’m sure there is a book they can read, homework to complete, or write down a summary of the worst “Blackout” in San Diego history. Many of our student/athletes cannot lose a day of education, and please remind them of the importance of their education.

Listed as follows are the games scheduled for September 10, 2011, please note a change for the Flag Gold game:

Flag (Gold) vs. Olympian 9:30 am @ Mt. Miguel HS

Flag (Blue) vs. Balboa (White) 10:30 am @ San Diego HS

MM vs. Santee (Purple) 11:00 am @ Eastlake HS

JPW vs. Eastlake (Blue) 1:00 pm @ Eastlake HS

PW vs. Carmel Valley 1:00 pm @ Cathedral HS

JM vs. Eastlake (Blue) 3:00 pm @ Eastlake HS

M vs. Carmel Valley 3:00 pm @ Cathedral HS

On my behalf, please communicate to your son(s) and/or daughters(s) to have fun and to always give it there best on the field and in the classroom. Thanks for your ongoing support and have a great weekend.

Hello Skyline Family,

Again, I’d like to thank each and every one of you for your support during this past Saturday’s pre-season games as the mighty Skyline Tigers represented well versus the Balboa Raiders. As always, our football teams more than held their own, however I’d like to send a special “shout out” to our beautiful and talented cheerleaders. The Lady Tigers were on display for the first time this season and they put on a show.

As we officially put a close to the scrimmages and pre-season games, again this is the time to stop by the snack bar and pick up “fresh” Skyline attire and bling for the start of the official season.

The following is the Skyline Youth Football and Spirit Schedule for this Saturday, August 27, 2011:

Flag Gold vs. Eastlake 2:00pm @ Mira Mesa HS

Flag Blue vs. Otay Ranch (W) 9:00am @ Otay Ranch HS

MM vs. Eastlake (Black) 11:00am @ Eastlake HS

JPW vs. Clairmont 11:00am @ Madison HS

PW vs. Balboa 2:00pm @ San Diego HS

JM vs. Clairmont 3:00pm @ Madison HS

Mid. vs. Balboa 4:00pm @ San Diego HS

It is critically important that your child arrive early (see your coach for time) for proper check-in procedures, uniform/equipment check, and stretching. Unfortunately, the entire schedule for the regular season is still pending, I will let you know immediately once it is communicated.

Please tell your child/children that I am proud of them, outstanding job, and keep up the great work. Also, if they are in school remind them to “hit the books”, do the their homework and please turn it in.

Thanks for your ongoing support.
